I’m Chen from Fandom’s Community Team. I am writing to invite you to a special event, Fandom’s 2017 Community Connect!
Community Connect is a creative and intellectual experience including Fandom community members from all over the world. This year’s event will be held at the Fandom office in Poznań, Poland, from August 24-26.
During Community Connect, a group of about 30 users will spend time with Fandom’s Community, Product, and Marketing teams. Check out information about the 2016 event, a video summary from the 2015 event, and feel free to browse the rest of the Community Connect Wiki and read about past sessions and participants. In general during this event we want to show you what we have planned for Fandom’s future, and we want to hear from you. What’s important to your community? What ideas do you have for Fandom and its platform?
Travel days will be Wednesday, August 23 and Sunday, August 27. We’ll provide airfare and accommodations, most meals, and a cash stipend for other food and expenses. We’re providing four nights of accommodations, and if you need to book a flight earlier or later than what we’re proposing, we’re happy to work with you.
Please note that you must be 18 years old by August 23 in order to participate in this event.
You will need to be comfortable conversing and interacting in English to participate in this event. If you accept this invitation, we’ll ask you to confirm your English proficiency level.
We’d love to have you join us. You can respond to me with any questions or concerns, and please get back to me by April 17 so we can make sure everything is arranged properly.
Thanks for your time, and we hope to see you at the event!

I want to ask about what I have to paid during the trip? Also, I concern with safety problems in Poland and nearby regions. Lastly, how can I prove my English proficiency level? Is it necessary to take IELTS/TOEFL exam?
"We’ll provide airfare and accommodations, most meals, and a cash stipend for other food and expenses. We’re providing four nights of accommodations, and if you need to book a flight earlier or later than what we’re proposing, we’re happy to work with you." - it means we will mostly cover everything during your trip for this event, including meals, hotels, flights, and food expense. Unless you have any expense for your personal use or you want to spend a few extra days for a trip in Poland or other countries in Europe etc., we will not cover things like that and you have to pay them yourself.
As far as I know, we don't have any safety issues in Poznan. It's a very beautiful and safe city to travel to and our admins who joined the event last year really had a great experience!! That's why Wikia has put an office in Poznan for many years. If you have any concern about the safety issue, please reach out to the admin Arturiaxnight who joined the event last year. He is from Taiwan and may give you some ideas about the event and the city from his own experience.
In addition, we will have Fandom staff with you all the time during the event, and if you need any help any time, you can always get help from us and we will be always there for you. However, we may ask all attendees to sign a paper before the trip to claim that you are responsible for your own safety if there is any accident happening.
About English proficiency level, we don't need any test scores from you to prove that. Because people will communicate in English during the entire time, all attendees must have some English skills. You don't need to be perfect but at least can talk, write and understand in English. Once you confirm to join the event, we may send you a form to let you evaluate your English skills yourself, and you can put a score, say from 1-10, to tell us about your level. After that, one of our staff may talk with you online in English. But don't worry, this is not a TOEFL or IELTS test at all! ;) We are doing so just to make sure you are confident to talk to people in English and you understand about the topics of our sessions during the event. The online chat is easy and can be anything about Fandom or your community, as long as you talk in English. You can also ask our staff any questions about this event as well. ;)
Hopefully I answered all you questions. Please let me know if you have more concerns and I will be here to help anytime! Thank you!
I am interested but I am still considering since it may be crashed with some other important events.
Also I will be in mainland China and I'm afraid that I cannot get connected to wikia. So I think I may inform you my decision a bit late, probably on April 18/19 . Sorry for the late reply.
Thanks for letting me know! Yes April 18/19 sounds good to me and please keep me updated by that time. Because you are located in China, you may take longer time to process your visa application to Poland I think? Please let me know ASAP once you make the decision so we can start the process.
That’s great news! I’m glad you’ll be able to attend. You’ll hear from us again in a few weeks, and we’ll ask you for some additional information to help plan your travel and make sure you have a great time at the event. Just want to confirm: can we reach out to you directly by email at firstname.lastname@example.org?? If not, please let me know which email is the best for reaching to you. Please click the button below "Contact Wikia" to send me your email online.
Also, please let me know if anything changes regarding your availability ASAP or if you have any questions.
Thanks for your enthusiasm about Community Connect! :)
We are still in the process of recruiting more admins to this event in some other language communities including English, Spanish, Russian, French, Japanese, German, and Portuguese to fill up the spots. It may take a few weeks to wrap up and then we will send emails to all admins in all languages together for this event. You are on our radar and thanks for your patience! :)
